Reba Askari, née Short
Reba is the Theatre Artistic Director at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, where she directs young actors in five “for kids, by kids” productions per year. Reba also works on projects with local schools, bringing theatre into the classroom, and she is a regular performing artist and puppeteer in the dress up theatre. She grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2002 with a BA in Theatre Arts and a minor in Women’s Studies. Reba is passionate about using theatre as a vehicle to empower communities. She spent two years overseas as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, where she led workshops and trainings on theatre and development. Reba earned a Masters degree in Theatre Education from Emerson College in 2013. She has acted locally in productions with Lorem Ipsum, The Theater Project, and Mad Horse (you may remember her as Matilde in The Clean House in 2010). She has directed for the Maine Playwright’s Festival and Port Fringe. Reba joined Mad Horse’s fundraising committee last spring and chaired the spring fundraiser. She is grateful and excited to join the ensemble and looks forward to contributing to the organizations bright future!
